The most disturbing, intense and important film documenting a shooting (or in this case the life of the shooter leading up to the massacre) I've ever seen.
This movie isn't for everyone. It follows the difficult, sometimes bizarre and isolated life of the unnamed gunman at the Port Arthur shooting. Constantly depressed, socially isolated and without many prospects or support from his struggling parents, This movie does the opposite of glorifying gun violence. If anything it's more a cautionary tale about how a society lacking mental help services paired with lethal weapons are inevitably going to cause harm. If you're looking for a heart warming movie or a violent gory picture, you might want to look elsewhere. This is a movie with no adrenaline rushes or payoffs , just a build up of tension that grows from start to finish. A major reason for this is a lack of score, just the serene Australian outback, birds and waves which adds a quiet foreboding atmosphere.
Outstanding acting, Brilliant directing and fantastic use of claustrophobic camera work.
It's hard to recommend this movie more as it's so damn important to watch. Just don't watch this movie when you're having a good day because it WILL ruin your mood.
Also... The government did not have any involvement or foresight of this event. People who believe that are either nuts or are pro gun lobbyists. Literally any news source, independent or otherwise, will tell you that.
