I am giving 3 stars purely out of sheer fandom for Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss and the groundbreaking story of the first (and only REALLY GOOD) film of the franchise. The SFX were again superb, the action was intense, and this 4th installment fused the nostalgia from all 3 predecessors into one giant flashback. This is where I just felt that there was nothing exactly new or groundbreaking in this 4th installment. It relied too heavily on nostalgia, meta-cognition, and the charm of Doogie Howser. The new cast was sadly forgettable too. A giant “meh.” Good thing I didn’t go to the theater for this one….and I so badly wanted it to be amazing, too.
