I love the physiological twist to this whole thing, I do think the ending could have been a little bit better. And to everyone who is confused, I am pretty sure the movie is called hippopotamus because when Tom was telling the story of how they get there, there was a clip of Tom and Ruby talking about parts of the brain. Ruby called the specific part of the brain they were talking about "the hippopotamus", and Tom corrected her. Telling her its actually called the hippocampus, this part of the brain is responsible for memory. Memory is the whole storyline of this movie, its what he is trying to restore in Ruby. So in simple translations: hippopotamus=hippocampus=memory.
