"Hey! Let's buy the rights to a popular series of books, with a built-in audience, and f*&k with it until it is unrecognizable? That way we'll lose the base audience and have no reason to presume we can build a new one?"
I loved these 3 books more than I can say. The characters became family to me, the world created by Cronin became a second home.
My Grandfather wrote some of the most famous movie adaptations of books ever filmed, so I am pragmatically understanding of the difference in mediums and the alterations required in moving from page to screen.
There is no excuse to butcher novels like that.
If you loved the books, don't infect your mind with the pedantic and common images of this rightful failure.
