Minor spoilers: I have to admit that it was a shocking experience and it was brilliant storytelling from beginning to end. It's a wholly human story about grief, the actions that drives us too, and accepting loss. It is the first game that I've played where I experienced the growth of the characters as they journey together. Now I understand the contempt for the game fans are experiencing. Joel was a survivor and he loved Ellie, so much so that he was willing to sacrifice a vaccine being created to save her; no matter the consequences of those actions. It makes someone who has done some horrible things in his life relatable because of the loss he experiences and knowing what Ellie means to him because of that. Now, I wanted to hate Abby as much as the next person especially after they make you play as her but she was driven by the same thing Ellie is and the unfolding of it all makes the ending all that much more satisfying because none of it was rushed and when I say not rushed; it was a loooong game but you couldn't tell this story otherwise. The other major thing I would like to point out is the level of detail and I don't just mean the astounding visuals but everything, from the side stories that unfold to the coherency of the timeline through two different perspectives. It is masterful work and I look forward to whatever comes next.
