SPOILER ALERT!!!
I actually loved this movie at first because it presented the plot in a rather interesting way. I've read a lot of people saying that it was terrible how they made the teen characters not act like teens but it was made that way intentionally. It seems like in their universe everyone is more familiar with the terms concerning sexuality which made the storyline more interesting for me.
However, the second half of the movie was where it started going downhill in my eyes. I noticed too late that they were sort of equating sex with love. It was made very clear to the audience that Alex was genuinely attracted to Claire in a romantic way. They were a great couple until they started considering having sex which made it problematic for Alex. None of that means that Alex is outright gay just because he can't be sexually intimate with Claire. They could still have been boyfriend and girlfriend. I was really still glad that Alex and Elliott ended up together but it wasn't necessary for Alex to not be romantically attracted to Claire anymore just because he wasn't sexually attracted to her. He may not have been bisexual, but to me, he was at least biromantic.
I'm rather disappointed that they focused too much on the sex part of love. That's just not how it works.
