A fun popcorn flick that entertains, as long as you don't question the 90's level sitcom tropes.
My positive is; most of the cast and all of the cinnamonography is top notch and is mostly compelling throughout. Each episode leaves you wanting more, and the threads it follows are followed really, until of course they're not.
Unfortunately, Once again Mike Flanagan leans very heavy on circumstantial coincidence and telegraphs his story every step of the way. The plot is a bit tired, with typical horror and suspense tropes being recycled throughout. It seems Flanagan has a nack of telling horror stories for those whom don't actually enjoy horror.
It's no wonder its in the top 10 of Netflix shows, it never seems to be full on horror, suspense, or a thriller.. it's mass appeal and honestly sometimes, that's okay.
Sometimes mindlessness fun serves its purpose, and that is where this series lies.
Perhaps if the series were condensed into a single movie, this could be something great, but alas it's just "fine"
