Loved Dr Who until this latest season. No, not "because the dr is female." But because the new writers can't get to any particularly meaningful storyline. Each episode seems to be "let's do an episode about how bad plastic is" or "that you should listen to women." This last season has been way too overtly and cheaply political.
The doctor and cop don't seem particularly competent, but make up for this with confidence... Kind of walking examples of the need to "Show me, don't tell me." And then the two male companions only exist to stand around to be even more relatively incompetent to make the doctor and cop look like they're participating by comparison.
The master was also a huge step down. The previous (female) master was smart and mischievous and terrifying. The most recent male version is just a one-dimensional "bad guy" because I'm so bad, mwahaha.
Finally, making the doctor the timeless child means they always had infinite regenerations and all of their sacrifices were meaningless and everyone who sacrificed themselves for the doctor did so in vein. It completely undoes the concept of the doctor being a below-average trouble-maker just trying to do the right thing and escape boredom.
