I didn’t feel the way some of the critics did by saying the movie downplayed the main issues happening in urban blue collar America. But it portrays a real family with real struggles that I see personally over and over again. I live near the city where the real family lives. What they go through is happening to many people in rust belt regions. No jobs, poverty, drug addiction. Many are children of parents who left Kentucky and West Virginia to find jobs in factories and to escape the poverty of their states.
