Yeah so the dummies didn't really grasp this film at all did they. For those who don't get it, I'll spell it out, hopefully without giving away too many spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet: Rose isn't a neglected wife, sliding into alcoholism for no reason. She's being tormented by Phil and is terrified (for good reason) that he is only befriending her son in order to lure him off on a camping trip where the poor kid will have an unfortunate "accident".
