We have watched all of the Miyazaki films and loved them. Unfortunately this latest film whilst beautiful to look is confusing storywise. I am not sure if there is a lost in translation issue here or maybe the symbolism is so opaque and deep neither myself or my wife could understand the many events in the film. I feel like I need to have a copy of CliffsNotes at hand while I watch the film. I have read this film is a representation of Miyazaki's life with a lot of symbolism in many of the scenes. I certainly cannot fault the art style or the clever use of sound and music. But as a coherent story for your average film buff it doesn't really meet expectations.
