Eleanor Early's New England Cookbook is one of the best cookbooks in the world. My mother used it and I learned to cook using it. I have the first edition, but I doubt it has been changed in any way. Several of the pages are stained because they are referred to so many times.
I also like the little stories and hints that are scattered throughout the book. for instance, cinnamon and cloves keep moths away.
The book is enjoyable even if you don't cook.
