I understand "things aren't like they used to be" but have they really changed this much? The risks the professor took aren't just risky but seem completely devoid of morality. Also, students openly drinking like this? I can see graduates, cause they're legal, but undergraduates? Also having sex with a student in your office like it's nothing, and inviting your students to sell pot to them in said office? Are you gen z's barking mad? Do you think college changed that much?
Then there's the wife, smiling as she mocks this very unhappy man with her cheat-- again--am I to understand that this is normal behavior now?
I get that he had nothing to lose, but why is this movie portraying kids drinking openly, professors having sex in a bathroom during a meet with them at a bar... so on and so forth.. again... are you people nuts? Who the hell wrote this stuff?
Johnny's acting is, as always, believable and good, but that's the only thing that seems believable in this movie.
NONE of this stuff would fly at a university except in secret... even today.
I'm surprised noone has an issue with the feminist rant and exclusion... noone has an issue with that either?
To summarize, what's wrong with this movie is obvious... what's right with it is lacking.
His marriage leaves alot to be questioned-- like HOW did it get that way (yes I know it's questioned mid movie but to what avail?) WHY is she so obnoxious and mean to him when he's not even cheating ( but she is)?
The writing is sloppy, the lack of backstory does not make me care about the professor AT ALL and fyi... this isn't the first movie about someone getting a death sentence and going crazy-- but it is done with little sense of repercussion.
I guess a movie have to be extreme now to get a response from the audience now?
I'm just confused at the searing (not at all subtle) aspects of this movie... too much tells me "no, this is ridiculous". It feels like a dressed down Jack Black movie (who's movies I can't stand).
The ending is just like a Tim Burton movie with no resolution and oh, that poor dog!
I'm left with a "I didn't need to see this" feeling... it's not even a rainy day worthy flick. If this is what passes for entertainment now then I think it's time we moved to Denmark. I've seen something that Johnny did that I DO NOT like and I'm a big fan.
Sorry Johnny... this didn't hit the mark... it's too chaotic even for a death sentence movie...
