There is much about this movie that seems manipulative and overwrought , but in real life I've seen eruptive and ugly situations like the ones depicted, so I took the story to heart. Glen Close is fantastic, Amy Adams is convincing. The hillbilly culture felt "stagy" and sentimental, but that didn't take away from the strength of the story. Highly recommend.

It was okay, liked the backstories of class differences and '70s-era social strife in Mexico, but the characters and their personal dilemmas were mundane--not worth the two hours I spent on a flick that tried to make too much out of too little.
