I dogged the game earlier for being ridiculously hard.... played it for a bit and got a handle. This isn’t a game for a casual player. Granted, you can tune the settings to make it extremely easy, but the arcadey elements of predecessors are not there. For new players: it’s all about follow through speed. Start on amateur difficulty and watch the meter on the top arc of the display. Try and hit dead center on that every time. Once you are good at that, up the difficulty. I was a -28 in a round guy on the last EA game that we had. I tried pro immediately and shot +10 in this game. Speed of the follow through is all that matters. I now shoot -10 on pro difficulty after playing 40 or so rounds on amateur just to get a feel. Negatives... well you can tell it’s 2Ks first golf game that they weren’t sure if they were going to make money, so they didn’t put as much time as they would have into it. Very little content and the the online play feels like it’s missing interaction. The difficulty curve is enough to put any casual off but after enough practice it is very rewarding to hit a good shot and have a 20ft putt, unlike the predecessors where it became an issue of you didn’t hole from 200 yards out. It’s a good game that is well built. Just lacking a meaningful tutorial for a punishing difficulty and a lack of content overall. I think the download was only like 5 GB...and no RPG development. It feels like the difficulty/simulation aspect of the game is way ahead of the curve however, the lack of content is way below what people expect nowadays. Haven’t dabbled in the course creator yet. Seems interesting, but with the lack of online interaction, I’m not expecting much. Still giving it a 4 on gameplay alone. Interested to see if updates yield any improvements... and it BETTER NOT be DLC.
