Liam and Micheál are a great team, amazing chemistry on screen. The most amazing part is that the "bones" of the story are very near and dear to both the father and son acting duo that went through the loss of Natasha Richardson the mother of Micheál and wife of Liam 10 years prior.
This film was so great, not only was the mise on scene so attractive, but the story really dealt with a very deep issue that I personally think films should do more.
The proper journey of loss and mourning, and the re-establishment of father figures in the lives of their sons and or children.
The story was not a difficult concept, but the use of metaphors really provides a depth that reaches far beyond what is going on, on the explicit level, and that is why this story works.
Keep your eyes and ears open or you will miss these moments, words with double edged meanings can slip by you in mere seconds, yet so eligantly placed that you can't go without atleast wondering how deep the mystery of this house goes.
The film form of this movie is far developed, the very fine little motifs and ideas that are interwoven into the dialogue and story takes this film to a more introspective level, that is reminiscent of a Good Year and Patrick Melrose.
Don't miss this film, it's a gem in it's own right, despite the mangy reviews from all the other critics.
