Disappointing. More of a companion piece to the TV series than a stand-alone novel. The implausible plot is rushed at the end and it turns into a “buddy movie” with the final escape scene. The opening chapters as narrated by Aunt Lydia are strong but this is no literary masterpiece. And yet it won the Booker.
