An absolutely beautiful movie with many important life lessons. From loving and trusting yourself in addition to those around you that you care for, not judging a book by its cover, don’t back down from your dreams, to life being entirely about taking a chance or a leap of faith. The movie obviously revolves around basketball, but I’d say it’s just as much of a drama as it is a sports movie. I feel the balance was handled very well, but I also enjoy watching basketball games. Adam Sandler absolutely crushed it in this movie. I have been a huge fan of his comedies for as long as I can remember, but I am so happy that Adam is putting a focus on showing off his acting skills in another more serious movie and I hope this is a trend that he sticks to. Adam was funny but in a relatable way, not a comedy movie way. Juancho Hernangomez obviously also had a big role in this movie as one of the main characters, and I think he did an amazing job at playing a believable, lovable and relatable character as well. His struggle with self appreciation was very well handled and portrayed by Juancho beautifully. Now, Anthony Edwards, I know he probably isn’t at all like his character that he plays in the movie, but that just makes it all the more impressive that he really managed to make me dislike his character as strongly and as quickly as he did. The movie isn’t perfect by any means, but the imperfections I feel are really just nit-picks, such as the kid at the private game after the combine still not knowing about Boa even after he literally blew up as a social media phenomenon just down the road, that doesn’t make much sense. Especially considering the kid is permitted to be at a “super hush hush” secret game for scouts. Again, but-picking here. All in all, I think this is easily among my top 5 Adam Sandler movies, and I think it is well worth watching if you like basketball even just a little bit.
