I loved this movie. I am not fond of a soap opera love story, but this is like a soap opera love story. Lilly James goes to Guernsey to write a story about a literary society that lived through the Nazi occupation, and the first thing she is told when she gets there is that they don't want the story told. The members then clam up, and she must dig on her own to uncover the mystery. At the same time she is engaged to be married to a ruch American, and she falls in love with a rough and tough Guernsey pig farmer, with a little daughter.
The ending is a soap opera love story, as she decides to go for her heart and she breaks her engagement with the rich handsome American and returns to Guernsey for the rough and tough pig farmer and his daughter.
I must say, I cried, and I fell in love with Lilly James again, as I always do.
