In my opinion this movie was not that great. I didn't like it. The story-line was understandable, the story behind the story was understandable, but it lacked depth.
One thing Michael Bay always managed to capture, was depth and background. In my opinion he redeemed himself with The Last Knight, and I loved how they went into detail with the history of the Transformers on earth - even if it was not correct.
I am all for sticking to originals, but for a reboot of a whole franchise, I expected more. There just wasn't enough substance in Bumblebee for me to sink my teeth into. It didn't make a big enough impression on me to want to go and buy it. For me personally it was a little watered down and on the mushy side and I felt like it was targeted to a younger audience. I just wanted a little more grit.
I grew up watching Michael Bay's Transformers and then later also watched some of the original G1 cartoons. I like that they kept the original 'look' of the Transformers in Bumblebee because let's face it - they looked freaking great. But that's pretty much it.
If I could score this movie out of 5, I would give it three stars. One star, because Transformers, a second star for 80s music and a third star for the animation and original look of the Transformers.
