Breathtaking scenery. Seeds of suspense sown in an ever-expanding opening sequence. Great character acting by most. Given that I've loved Dawn French in pretty much everything else she's done, I was surprised by my disappointment with her performance in the lead role. It was like all the slightly embarrassing, serious bits of The Vicar of Dibley only all.the.time.for.six.episodes! The other disappointment was the stereo-typing of some characters: spinster teacher desperate for a partner, snotty school secretary, clueless, enabling husband of Maggie, even the premise: small town gossip knows everything about everyone, was a stretch. I did binge watch the whole thing but it's just OK
