We watched this up to where the Grand High witch reveals herself at the meeting. What a load of rubbish. It was nothing like the book and for a PG it was too scary. The witches looked like a cross between Alien and the Joker in designer clothes and were far too scary for my 7 year olds. The blurb said it was humorous and heart warming. We didn't think it was either of those things. It was too slow to get into it and Anne Hathaway kept switching from a Russian accent into Mel Gibson from Braveheart! We switched it off and watched the 1990 Angelica Huston version instead which was far superior and my girls really enjoyed. Shame I'd paid for the new film when the old one was free and so much more child friendly. Let's face it- the book was written for children so kids are the best judges and my two hated the new film. Unfortunately this is like the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- too dark! Roald Dahl's books were all about finding fun and humour (the silver linings) in bad situations. Thank goodness he didn't live to see this tripe.
