This film was not meant to be enjoyed it was meant to be reflected upon. 1917 may easily be one of the best films ever made (in my opinion). Perfectly taken in one shot amazing cinematography and great acting. The pacing is perfect because war isn't always about action and danger it also is about patience and planning. The slow pacing perfectly sets suspense not knowing whats going to happen next. The characters even though they all seem different they are still all similar because in war most people will not experience emotions every one sounds so depressed because war is not something to smile at they are all witnessing the same thing at the same time. The perfect beginning with a perfect full circle ending perfectly shows that war never really ends on earth. The emotions when they do come out convey the deeper meaning behind scenes. The scene with all of the soldiers around a single singing soldier the film takes it time for you to reflect on everything the main character has just been through. The field run scene is astonishing they only had one chance to film this because of all the effects and it was perfectly executed. At the end when he finally delivers the letter you sense a feeling of dread and relief. Relief because he has finally made it but dread because all he has been through he tells his friends brother about the depressing news and then takes his time to walk over to an isolated tree and finally rests.
In summary this film is absolutely astonishing everything about it and if you are looking for a very deep movie to think about and reflect on then this film is perfect.
