This film identifies a lot of hard to talk about topics that often occur to women. However, it shows feminism in an extremist way that the majority of feminists don’t like to be associated with. Such as the unnecessary attacking of some men, for example breaking the wrist of the mascot for no reason... what feminism is is the strive for equality and equal opportunity, which there were if moxie had asked for it e.g. a female candidate and air time for their campaign.
Furthermore, the main character in my eyes was really intolerable and plain. She was just rude and spouted random feminist quotes at people who were trying her bets. For example, the discussion of physics, she shouted at the two people in the conversation because “they didn’t ask me because I am a woman!”... no they didn’t ask you because you were shooting down their attempts and you were sulking about screwing your best friend over. The boyfriends concerned and she attacks him and accuses him of trying to own her, Then she yells “f the patriarchy!” And runs off.
I am only picking a few scenes out of the many weird cliches and unnecessary outburst that make ‘feminists’ seem angry and unreasonable.
Overall, I enjoyed the concept. However, I did cringe a lot during the film. It seemed like the character was taking offence to everything and never actually faced any of the consequences of her actions like vandalism, stealing and allowing her friend to get suspended. Oh and not only did she get her suspended she made her feel terrible for not helping her enough, knowing her friend was an introvert (not really supporting women and their right to choose and shamed her without even knowing what her friend was going through).
And the fact the rape story was shoved in in the last few minutes just felt like the writers didn’t make Mitchel a bad enough guy to receive all this hate, so they had to find a way to make him even more scummy.
Idk man, the whole film felt off to me as a woman and feminists myself. Instead of being a clever, strong-minded Female lead, she was more of an angry, impulsive girl :/
