I found it difficult to connect with this tale. I suppose when you make an adaptation of an existing story, the audience have a preconceived idea of who the characters are. For me I felt disappointed in Arthur…. I perceive that Arthur should be all inspiring hero, that unites people. But I found Arthur in this tale to be anything but, he seemed to betray his own people, make poor choices and he is floored, arrogant and weak….. I wanted to observe a special friendship and bond between merlin and Arthur, but merlin’s character was absent for most of the story. I was more interested in nimue and Derfel than Gwenivere and Arthur. Their relationship seemed forced and more about lust than love. The horror and gore was terrifying at times. If your into a story about killing and raping, rather than depth and devlopement of the characters then this tale is for you. It’s a long watch with disappointment if you are hoping for a hero tale.
