As you can see, I am biased. I love this series so much but found it hard to play portable as I was used to much more updated video games. It has a very dark undertone of death that I can relate to at some level. The first two minutes of the game had me crying with Yukari’s “just pull the trigger” scene, and I expect to cry some more as I complete the story. But I’m here just to review the gameplay: I love the turn based combat that the persona series has that no other studio can really get. If you played Persona 5, it’s basically the same but with some minor tweaks here and there. It brought back shuffle time from the original, which means you don’t get to negotiate with the shadows like in Persona 5. That’s the only major difference from Persona 5 I’ve found. It still has baton passes, weaknesses, normal attacking and the such. While you can’t just pull out a gun and blast shadows to oblivion, it’s still really fun. After battles end, there’s usually a very lovely portrait of the character who initiated the finishing attack which brings me to my next point: the UI is stylish. The options menu is sooo pretty, in battle when selecting things a silhouette of the character will appear, and when time passes it shows a smooth graphic with a clock. There are so many little details in menus and such I can’t even begin to list them all. The music, while some of it lacks that punch of the original soundtrack, is still amazing. I’ve had “Want to be close” In my head all day. My only complaints are it’s hefty price tag and the fact I can’t romance the stereotypical French dude. Though I think we’re getting to a Wokesona, there’s a neat little detail in one of the opening cutscenes- a tote bag with a pride pin that made me squeal in delight. They’ve removed all the weird jokes from the original, and I have my fingers crossed soon we will be able to romance men. Thank you for listening to my little rant.
