It was very strange and 'thick', yet it was compelling enough to keep me watching until I saw where it led... The Panama Papers. (I had only watched the film because I love Meryl Streep; I had no clue what it was about.) It engaged me so deeply that I actually researched The Papers more thoroughly after the movie ended, which is highly unusual for me as I made a personal decision to avoid the news decades ago. Rarely does a film ever affect me like that!
