Not an easy watch, but for those willing to give it the time and attention this is beautiful film telling what is essentially a coming of age story. At its beginning the protagonist is uneducated and therefore naive, seemingly alone and unprepared for the trials of becoming an adult. The incursion of race, class, trifling men, complex societal events and tragedy threaten to cast her completely adrift. But In the end her own humanity and the humanity of those she cares for and about define her and her life. The cinematography is fantastic along the way.
