This is the worst adaptation that Masterpiece has ever presented. For well-read fans of the James Herriot books, the screen writer's gratuitous additions to the original stories is only an irritant. The wholesale disregard of the Herriot "canon" appears to be the sad attempt of the writer to improve on perfection - an attempt that fails horribly. I'm sad to say this program is a severe disappointment.
