Since it was based on the absurd Dirk Pitt novels by Clive Cussler, one can't fault the film as a premise....As it's own film, it is spectacular in many ways...The film does immense justice to Cussler's rather pedestrian writing and gives this somewhat insipid material of Cussler's the shot in the arm it really needs...The acting pedigree is outstanding with two Oscar winners in lead roles and an excellent supporting cast...The action in basically non-CGI and well paced and exciting..The chemistry between McConaughey and Steve Zahn (as Pitt's sidekick from the novels,Al Giodino) is great and gives comic depth to Cussler's one dimensional characters...Despite the legal wranglings around this unfairly maligned film, it was, and still is, a great adventure film...
