GAMEPLAY
Overall, gameplay and mechanics are wonderful. It is a similar system to TLOU1, but improved in nearly every way. I had very few glitches/other issues within the gameplay, even though I was playing the game on the base PS4. The game is beautiful, with meticulously crafted environmemts, character models, and animations. A fantastic game, in the technical sense.
STORY
As a fan of the first game, I have been following the development of part 2 for a while now. ND advertised this as a story similar - yet dissimilar - to it's predecessor, with a focus on Ellie, Joel, and relationships over the course of the story. I was able to avoid spoilers and went into the game with an open mind. Ellie's portion of the game was overall very enjoyable, although Joel's death does not fit his character. I can think of a multitude of more in-chatacter, plausable deaths which would be more fulfilling and suitable for the character. Abby's portion of the story lacked any significant emotional weight for me, and I felt unsympathetic towards most of the characters, even though I had actively tried to care about these characters (I thought Yara and Lev were interesting and had potential, though). The ending made me feel...hollow, almost. This journey led to virtually nothing (whereas TLOU1 gradually built up to the end, where Joel and Ellie trust and care for each other + the ending left an impact on the players and characters) and I was overall dissapointed with the narrative direction of this. It feels like the game lost its "heart", its core of Joel and Ellie, like the devs wanted to make an entirely seperate game.
TL;DR (NO SPOILERS): It feels like the game lost its "heart", its core of Joel and Ellie, like the devs wanted to make an entirely seperate game. It was relatively devoid of the emotional impact the original game was praised for, and all led up to an unsatisfying, dissapointing ending.
