I haven't seen satire applied to this grand a scale that it's directly causing our extinction. It's probably so meta that the only way we can experience that comedy is through the film. I'd imagine most of us empathised with the anxiety of the leads who're desperately trying to change course against those playing the survival of the fittest in a decaying world. I think that was the agenda, empathize with how difficult it is to walk the path of an alerter when impending doom is staring in our faces. Di Caprio's offline efforts and his casting make a lot of sense to me now. The mockery of over generalization, the angst of living in a performance driven, 'let the medicine go down' world are portrayed as is against an upbeat tempo that's unbearable because we're all in it. It's our reality, but who's really laughing? The key to watching this unbearable film is to question why films have to be easy to watch when the reality isn't.
