After watching 'Bulbul', the first thing that comes in my mind is that how much Indian horror films have evolved in recent years and Bulbul definitely has added another step to its success. Flawless and awesome acting by each and every characters. Almost a bhansali set, a treat for the eyes to see the 'Zamindari' era with haveli, Old bengali attire, and equially dark social disputes in 1800's. Wonderful camera work and beautiful frames almost makes you ignore the flaws in the story. As a dubut movie, director Anvita Dutt has done a great job, and we would love to see more of her work in future.
What's wrong with Bulbul? Story buildup. It takes more events and dialogue to build a misterious character, I felt the writer has left that part to be imagined by viewers rather than actually putting effort to create it. Specially the whole scene with the torture by the zamindar's duo are masked by slow motion and passive frames and does not give the feel of horror and trauma. and finally the climax is weak not giving viewers enough time to grasp the unravelled mystery, slightly disappointed. Its a good watch but after movies like Tumbbad, Pari it falls short to create a strong conclusion in the end.
