My excitement at watching this was peaked by the 2 elderly survivors of Hitler's atrocities. Individually, they are both fascinating characters with unique stories and perspectives. But I found Commandant's Shadow a bit offensive in the way the adult children appeared to be pressuring their geriatric parents to go back and revisit memories they clearly didn't want to revisit. Comes off as victim righteousness bordering on elder abuse. For what purpose? I can't think of any other than possibly for the sake of making a film, getting good reviews, and money? That's how it felt. Otherwise, the documentary spent too much time on the least interesting people and went at a very slow pace. There are better written and produced documentaries out there on the Holocaust.
