Like many of the sane folks who rated a 1-star here, I was hugely disappointed.
I'm a fan of the series and bought the first 3 DVDs, and initially couldn't wait to see this 4th one.
After watching the trailer where Wick jumped out of how many stories high and didn't die, as well as scenes of Wick fighting with the blind Caine, I started to have my doubts. But I still decided to go to watch it and see it for myself, because apart from Yen and Sanada, I was hoping to see Scott Adkins and Marko Zaror in action, as well as to see Laurence Fishburne's acting.
How could such a brilliant cast go to such waste??
One of the many problems I guess is the director's ideas for his cast didn't work!
Below are some of the films problems:
* Scott Adkins, a brilliant martial artist and action actor - why was he in a fat suit? I guess if he was cast to fight with Mark Zaror instead, there's no need for this 4th installment because their own films are way better.
* Yen is supposed to be blind but somehow at times he fought like he wasn't. Again, rather watch him in his own films.
* Many capable actors in this franchise but I cannot feel the emotions in this one - Reeves hardly talks at all and when he does, they're pretty badly delivered, "I'm going to need a gun..." - *cringe*
* When Wick fell off the Continental at the end of 3, I started to think like, oh-kay, he lives... but now he literally was falling from stories high to endless flights of stairs, to being hit numerous times by cars... it started to feel like if this film is supposed to be a sci-fi comedy / action film - Matrix - Wick - Marvel crossover??
* Why did they have to drive in a different direction by the Arc de Triomphe?
* Yes, I get that Reeves trained hard yet again for the film but somehow the action was not as well shot as the previous films. In fact, they're quite sloppy this time, like the sequence shot from the ceiling looking down, it felt like I was watching a video game.
I didn't even know there's something more after the end credits, cos I had already left by then. Soundtrack, music - meh.
Everything was just so predictable, despite the cast kept saying there's more character building in this one....where? So the Tracker is a Tracker. He didn't kill Wick because Wick saved his dog...boom..
Even when Wick supposedly died/didn't die (I don't care anymore) - I felt nothing.
This installment feels like it's just a self-indulgent piece: sure they all had fun making it but the end result felt more like a B-grade action movie. I don't look forward to the next one if there is going to be one. This one pretty much killed the franchise.
The one star is for the stunt teams' hard work getting hit by cars and rolling down the stairs etc..
If you have 2 hours 40+ minutes to spare, I'd highly recommend you to watch Blade Runner 2049 instead. Beautifully shot, great story, visuals, suspense, acting and emotions. Don't know why so many folks hated it when it came out. Apparently it was too long...
