Wow!!!
I actually said that out loud almost reflexively, practically exhausted, the second this movie faded to the credits. I knew I'd just seen cinematic greatness.
It's an epic re-telling of the WWII era race to be the first atomic power, that highlights and powerfully warns of the political landscapes we must now wade through for the remainder of our time on this planet, to avoid self annihilation.
This movie is truly fantastic! It is so accurately and historically layered -- based on the book, "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer" by Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin. "Oppenheimer" beautifully captures the intricacies of the Manhattan project and many of the personalities that were part of it. Additionally, the movie weaves in an unexpected, back-door love story with Oppenheimer's wife (portrayed by Emily Blunt) as told via his post-war interactions that were the result of the fear mongering of the McCarthy / Red Scare era, and beginnings of the military industrial complex.
This is ultimately just a wonderfully written and directed story. Nolan is at the height of his already impressive directorial game here. The actors were top notch. Cillian Murphy is Oppenheimer. This movie will rightfully earn multiple nominations and win multiple awards.
Wow!!!
