First time reviewing a movie and want to be as straightforward as possible. Since it had great reviews and I was familiar with Shazam I knew movie would be decent no matter what. My only two negative criticism was the need to include as many s bombs and cursing, The rating is appropriate but just felt like there was no need for it as much as was present. The Marvel movies have same rating but hardly any cursing and have been successful and appeal to all ages, without parents having to cringe or explain to their kids not to use those words. Perhaps this thought goes into the Marvels movies allowing a larger fan base which generates more $ but it works and I think Shazam would have been just as if not more successful if it had followed this style IMO. The second negative criticism would be the darkness of the scene pertaining to Thaddeus seeking revenge upon his father. It not so hard core its just not kid friendly and for whatever reason felt unnecessary to emphasize how much of a villain Thaddeus is.The lightness of the overall film made this scene out of place. Would have liked to have seen more of the comedy between Billy and Freddy. The idea of a kid instantly becoming an adult and with super powers was a movie within it self and would of like to have seen more of that. It reminded me of Tom Hanks in 'Big' there was a real opportunity to explore this aspect from a child's perspective I felt would have had great comedy potential as well as some complex coming of age issues. The movie was still very good and would recommend to any super hero fan. I just think it would have done better in the box office with an earlier release and broader age appropriate fan base.
