I only watched about half of the first episode but my gut feeling is he is guilty. This may sound terrible but sometimes instinct is something reliable. I think he is a psychopath, pity defence seems on his side saved his skin in the end.

I must say that I find it hard to believe that, being such a highly educated, intelligent woman, not to be the partner in crime in this case. It would be an irony if she benefited from this series. Crime does seem to pay! In fact the title is misleading also. The fact she used someone else’s idea/skill (chef) to open this restaurant then got rid of the original partner. The total lack of remorse towards her unpaid staff and investors suggest to me that what happened has nothing to do with being a vegan; rather her selfish ambitions and disregard to others’ wellbeing and feelings. I hope she will not be permitted to run a business again!

Good but not great. I read many murakami’s novels so the adaptation is not entirely a surprise. But it stretched far far too long, would benefit from significant editing (out). Most of the actings are great/good, but not sure how multi-languages including sign language could add much substance to the film, other than tick the diversity box! All in all, still worth watching.

I must say that I had no idea who Fran was but took a chance on this based on the good reviews on rotten tomatoes. Oh well I watched the first episode, but never again! I find her extremely irritating! I hope that she is satisfied with the 5mins fame by saying the obvious. I am a bit surprised though by Martin’s role - a decent director, some say one of the best. It seems even he can run out ideas sometimes…

Disappointing I must say. I am not sure the film has any purposes other than getting some great (Isabelle Huppert) and good actors together, let them do whatever they like on location! Everything stays on the surface, little attempt at exploration of the characters or relationships between the characters. Lack of a plot is not a problem, lack of synergy is a problem! It looks like an european arthouse film but it isn't!

I chanced on this despite of the somewhat negative reviews. But what a discovery! I think this is one of the best films from Woody Allen. The film made explicit reference to Eugene O'Neill, which is spot on! Admittedly this is not for the faint-hearted, and it feels more like a play at times. But the artificial ambience of the era juxtaposed the dark human dramas underneath masterly. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
