First episode started off great, but then slowly the show fell apart. The pacing wasn’t good, some actors did good, but others were terrible. I see a lot of people on here saying to disregard people who complain about the wokeness of the show, but I feel it’s a legitimate complaint and they shouldn’t be looked at as “trolls” as Neil gaimen put it. It honestly did feel forced it didn’t feel like the LGBT characters were naturally occurring and that the scenes actually furthered the plot or who the character was. Including LGBT characters can easily be done without that forced feeling and the original comics boasted many characters who were not straight. Some people take it over the top saying its evil and what not, but for me it just was very forced almost like when a show puts in tons of breasts because it knows it’ll snag a few horny guys.
I think for me reading the comics I was drawn to the dark and messy drawings. I really wish the show had something to remind me that it is a comic, some sort of stylization that brings out the aesthetic the comics had. Maybe an animated series would of been better who knows. The actual cinematography was lackluster I mean we are following dream of all people!!! This is the opportunity for crazy transitions and interesting perspective shots. We are talking about dreaming let that camera actually do some work! Still shots and pans aren’t it.
Dream himself also was just not dream. So pretty and young. Dream isn’t that he is a middle aged man, guant, messy hair and haunting, but it’s all about appeal in film.. whether that’s having a pretty face or pandering to certain groups it’s all the same. I’d just really like to see some real artistic expression where none of that is getting in the way and it’s all arriving naturally out of creative power!
Over all the show was pretty boring. Wouldn’t recommend it personally.
