The blind side review
The blind side, a movie directed in 2009 by Broderick Johnson, Gil Netter, Andrew Kosove, Timothy M Bourne and starring Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Jae Head collaborate to make this incredible inspiration for generations to come. The movie is about a homeless boy named Michael Oher who got interest in football/NFL and with Leigh Touhy, Sean Touhy, SJ and Collins to chase his dream. This movie is based of a real story of Micheal Oher and how he survived the terrible environment near the streets and climbed to the top. This movie includes themes of Homelessness, Racism, Taking a stand, Compassion and violence.
Homelessness
This movie, The blind side has many emotional displays with themes of homelessness, For example Micheal, one of the characters was looking for leftover foods, finding warm places such as the ‘gym’ and more hints of this emotionally strong theme. These themes also have a light and importance another example is when Micheal was walking in the rain another character called Leigh asked Micheal if he wants to come their home and Micheal responding back with “yes”.
Taking A Stand & Compassion
The Blind side also included themes of ‘Taking A Stand’ scenes of this powerful them is usually expressed by Leigh Touhy, an example of this theme is in a scene where Leigh was eating with her friends and her friends were teasing and gossiping bad things about Micheal where as Leigh took a stand and made this wonderful and powerful quote “I don’t need ya’ll to approve my choices all right? But i do ask that you respect them. You have no idea what that boy has been through.” This amazing quote expresses Leigh’s feelings about Micheal and her intention’s and amazing way to give powerful expressions in such small scenes.
Discrimination
Themes of Discrimination are also heavily displayed in this movie an example of this is in a scene where Micheal goes to his first football match and the opposing team and fans passing rude and nasty comments to Micheal this scene really displays the hate that Micheal is receiving even after all his efforts to try and do whatever he can for the team this scene also shows how it can bring someone down and indicates we should never replicate such actions.
Conclusion
Overall, This movie is a great inspiration to the young generation and many more to come, It had incredible acting and scenes evoking you a mix of emotions such as anger, sadness, empathy with a sprinkle of humour and a few scenes with very powerful messages that we should be aware of, it also shows how it utilised these powerful themes such as Discrimination, Taking a stand, Homelessness and much more, In return they got awards such as Academy Award for Best Actress, Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actress, Best Sports Movie ESPY Award, Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture – Drama, Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, Movie Actress: Drama, Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie: Drama.
