I had no real expectations going into this. I figured it would have a similar feel to the first. I honestly didn't even know that it was a full blown musical.. 😳 lol I can honestly say I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The songs were all beautifully placed, and didn't take me out of the movie like some songs in musicals tend to do for me. The songs actually drew me into the moment more and more. The acting was phenomenal. Lady's deep gaze was very intense and authentic. I was never really a fan of her music, but she has earned my respect through her performance in this, alone. The cinematography is probably some of the best I've ever seen. It blends seamlessly from shot to shot and is visually beautiful despite the dark scenarios involved. I believe the low ratings are a shame, and from what I've gathered, are mostly coming from people similar to the fans of Joker depicted in the movie itself. People have their own expectations of what they think a joker movie should be like, and are upset this didn't please their Fandom of the fictional character. This film really is it's own world. That's the best way I can describe it. And that's why I liked it so much, it's different. I'm glad that I was able to be fully enthralled without a biased outlook or preconceived notions, and just enjoy the ride. Well worth viewing/hearing in a decent theatre. I'm sure Imax would be awesome, for the musical performances alone! ✌️
