Elizabeth Gist

I came away dissapointed by this film. A mish mosh of all the previous films smooshed together without gaining an identity of its own. Its pinched various bits and bobs from all of them including the rather ridiculous human/alien hybrid thing from the fourth one. One of my complaints with many modern films is that they take little or no time to build the characters and as such the audience can't feel invested in their fate. Hollywood seem to insist that you have to be into the action within 5 mins, they seem to have lost sight of the art of storytelling. This is unfortunately, no exception, in contrast the original alien which gets 45 mins in before a face hugger grabs Kane, likewise the masterclass that is aliens must be at least 35 mins in before hudson exclaims hes found the colonists. This one was unwilling to spend any time building things up just straight into it. I wanted to like it because I love the first two and have been waiting for another one that can live upto those two, this is not it I'm afraid, a rather soulless mess of a film.
