Vae Vobis – Google

Surprisingly good low budget post apocalypse film. I'd seen it listed on streamers before, but wrote it off as schlock - honestly, because the main character was played by an actor named Johnny Strong so I couldn't take it seriously. Finally gave it a chance and glad I did. Good action sequences - the survivors were employing pretty realistic tactical movement, must've had a good military consultant. And of course, Lance Henriksen.

I will admit to some bias. Although I'm 'Murican, I LOVE Brit stuff - horror, comedy, whatever. The acting just seems grittier and more heartfelt, like these are real people and not Hollywood casting agency mannequins. Since this was obviously a low-budget effort, some of the VFX were less than optimal, but the cast and acting were top-notch. The ending twist was very neat. Thanks to Tubi for offering this hidden gem.

As I always feel the need to state when talking about the glut of comic book film adaptations, I'm not a comic book guy. So I'm not approaching this worrying about how true it was to the source material. I DON'T CARE. MOVE OUT OF YOUR MOM'S BASEMENT, NERDS. I don't care about the 74 MCU movies that have come out, the only ones I've watched were the first Iron Man flick and Black Panther. I just re-watched this on Tubi and it reminded me of the awesomeness of this film - as a horror/action film. I LOVE the first two Blade movies. Wesley KILLED it. The visuals (right before every single visual in this type of movie was CG) were beautiful. Looking forward to the remake/sequel/reboot whatever, that's coming up, will be the only other MCU movie I plan on watching.

This would've been a much better movie if the producers and casting director hadn't decided to go with the same old, same old, same old, tired primary cast of vapid, useless, 20-something characters that we see in so many genre films. The horny couple that can't keep their hands off each other, the geek, the bubbly blonde, the one with DEEP ISSUES (usually a chick, but in this case a male). Oh, and one of them, of course, has rich entitled parents that conveniently provide the plot point that they all get to hang out at a luxurious getaway out in the woods. None of them have any justification whatsoever to enjoy the lifestyle that they do, but here we are. Is it so impossible to make a sci-fi/horror/thriller film featuring real, adult characters?

Office Space meets The Descent, I guess? This makes about 4 horror or horror-comedy films I've seen about corporate team-building retreats gone wrong, and they confirm that I'm glad I wasn't a cubicle drone, I guess. It wasn't about the survival horror and cannibalism so much as another opportunity to shine a light on the flim-flam BS that drives so much of the business sector of our economy, especially these media darling "start-ups" peddling smoke and mirrors. It's kinda weird that I happened to watch this movie now, what with the Theranos trial going on - Demi Moore's character could be Elizabeth Holmes' big sister. Screw the rich.

Amazing movie. So glad I stumbled across this on a streaming site a couple of years ago. I'm a horror hound, and I particularly love post-apocalyptic stuff, but this one stands out. The entire cast was great, but I gotta say Ashley Bell absolutely crushed it. When things fall apart and we're thrust into an apocalyptic hellscape I'm definitely looking her up because I want to be on her team. It's unfortunate I've only had the opportunity to enjoy her work in two films - this one, and the possession/exorcism film she did, but she was amazing in both.
