I’m a fire investigator in Australia and I have reviewed several fatal fires in the USA. Fire investigation is the most challenging branch of all the Forensic Sciences yet very few qualified scientist are employed. Many, if not most fire investigators have no aptitude for science. They think they can read burn patterns at a fire scene where flashover has occurred and deduce exactly where a fire started. I love the comment once made by Dr Gerald Hurst - burn patterns are to fire investigators what tea leafs are to gypsies.
