Breaking bad is my absolute favorite movie/tv show of all time. I have a framed poster of Walter White from the pilot episode in my kitchen and have seen the series at least 6 times all the way through. I was very excited to see this movie and came into it with high expectations and even woke up at 3am so I could watch it as soon as it came out. Now having seen the movie twice I can honestly say it was a disappointment.
It didn't feel like a Breaking Bad movie at all. El Camino felt like a long BB episode that somehow belonged 1 or 2 episodes before the finale. It didn't really add anything to the overall story that made it over all better. To be honest I like the story better as it was with Jessie driving off in the original finale.
Things I wanted to see and I'm pretty sure every hardcore fan wanted to see seemed to be intentionally left out. I wanted to be brought back to Andreas death and Brock because it had such an impact on the story and Jessie but little was done with it. I wanted to see Mike have a meaningful impact on the movie but outside of suggesting Alaska he was a pointless cameo only there for fan service. The aftermath of Hanks death, the white family and how they are coping with everything are all things I wanted to see a small insight into but didn't.
They had big shoes to fill diving back into the almost perfect world of Breaking Bad with a movie and came up short. Pinkmans character doesn't accomplish anything other than ending the story on a happier note which I don't think was a good thing.
The movie wasn't bad but it wasn't great which is a bad thing because it's source material is as great as it gets. I almost want to fault my self for having such high expectations and review the movie higher but I realize bit could have met those expectations with a better story. I give the movie a C+ a far cry from the A+ I give breaking bad.
