We got to watch a bunch of singers show themselves off and listened to a few monologues about the names of God the first 80 minutes as we scratched our heads and thought about leaving. Then we got a half hour episode, consisting of Mary and Joseph going to Jerusalem arriving at a stable and having a baby. There was some made up parallel story line about Mary sharing her “song” with Mary Magdalene who then smuggles it to Luke in Rome, but it was kinda “meh”. I struggled to find the awe and inspiration I have encountered in the Bible or other, early, episodes of The Chosen. The claim of seeking authenticity and truth in this “franchise” seem somewhat lacking when the trailer says nothing about an hour and a half of some singers most people have never heard of causing you to pick up your phone and scroll… I suggest that the writers of The Chosen pick up a copy of the Bible and “The Desire of Ages” (definitely inspired) if they need some authentic material & inspiration for their scripts (the last few of which seem to need help). Your going to have to deliver more and better if I’m going to throw down $13 a ticket again or recommend others engage with this series as a step in understanding more about the character of God and the life of Jesus.
