It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but it’s not about that. It’s about the continuation of a spectacular trilogy.
The first quarter is a painful meta plot, the second relies on trilogy flashback filler, the third is tired & uninspired action, and the last I just wanted to get to the end.
Neo’s skills in the trilogy were a slow unfolding of awe-inspiring powers. In M4 they are an eyesore of sloppy mega talents - there’s certainly no awe factor.
I can’t believe anyone thinks the new Mr Smith is a worthy substitute. The new sentiments had potential - and then the entire premise dies a bad joke with one high-five.
There were a few threads I thought had potential. Zion fallen and the new Io was believable. I didn’t even mind the initial premise of Neo having been returned to the matrix or that they needed him and Trinity to gain more power. But the details, the nuance, the mystery, dare I say, the magic, of the trilogy was completely lost in this one.
I don’t know of the behind-the-scenes goings on, but what it felt like was a rushed job with the best script writers & action choreographers missing.
I wish to unsee it.
