Update: it's a grower. It's really really subtle and sparse. There's something worth finding and waiting for. It's just not gonna hit everyone with obvious hooks. Reminds me of how Cowboy Junkies Trinity Sessions felt like background music... until ya just relaxed and let the music find you rather than vice versa. I find it to be utterly vague and half baked. Listening 5x consecutively not one song is memorable enough to be happy to hear it again. It's like an indistinct, unmemorable but pleasant Demo. Didn't tug at me or hook me. I wanted to care but couldn't get excited because it teased that it would move me.... then fizzled out with no pitter patter or inner melting or desire to spin around. Snoozer.

2020 Taylor Swift's Self-Reinvention. Forget everything she did before Folklore/Evermore. These albums are a completely different species of storytelling.

This album got unfairly condemned by many fans and critics .....imo...because they listened to it as a Taylor Swift release instead of a pop r&b release. It's great, better than 1989 IMHO. But artists are always held to the standard of their previous work. On its own, it's great writing, catchy hooks etc. Great storytelling? Not necessarily. But why ever assume an artist will stay in one lane? DELICATE is fun, great, catchy.... Endgame has great hooks. Even without the storytelling and poetry.... there's a Very clear story in REPUTATION.
