I don’t like this show at all! I was very excited at the prospect of a country version of The Voice or American Idol. First of all the format sucks. It appears that the judges hand pick who get to audition and have had previous experience with them. They have built in bias for their picks! I realize the other talent shows pre-screen who comes before the judges but it’s not the judges doing the pre-screening! Secondly, After each performance, the judge who invited the artist promotes their artist. At the end someone win, gets to play at The Stagecoach, compete in the finale and wins some money. You don’t see the winning artist until the finale. You don’t get to know that artist or compare him/her/them until the finale. Who in the heck can make an informed decision when that much time has elapsed and you only hear them once on finale night maybe twice. Next, what makes the other shows fun is that you become vested in your favorites. You get to hear them often enough to have a chance to become vested and to change allegiances as other artists do better performances or some of your favorites are voted off during eliminations.
Let’s address the first shows contestants. They were mediocre at best. The group that won in Episode 1 was better than the other two mediocre ones. In short, I was bored to death and very disappointed in the show.
Now, how about the judges and their comments and interactions with each other. Four words...CANNED, CORNY and COUNTRY DUMB! I was a fan of all the judges before this show. Now my admiration is tarnished. When Kelly and Blake talk on The Voice, they sound country but not dumb canned and corny! They offer constructive criticism and authentic praise that’s believable. The dialogue in this show harkens back to Hee Haw! The corniness was understandable back then and expected. I didn’t expect it from modern country artists in 2018!
I’m writing this as I’m attempting to watch episode two. The second artist is on and I’ve yet to be impressed or had my attention grabbed. Now the judges are gushing again! I’m bored again! My daughter, mom and daughter-in-law all watch the talent shows. We call each other to get each other’s opinions on what we just watched. It’s a three generational thing we can do together. I asked them all what they thought after the first episode. They all felt exactly as I do! The show is a disappointment and not worth watching. The sad thing is that I think a country music talent show could have filled a void and could have given The Voice a run for its money!
