This movie came out when I was in my school. At that time I liked the songs immediately. I again saw it in my 20s. That was the time it hit me different. I noted the director and saw that he had a unique style. Now I'm 34. I saw this movie for the third time and now I can truly appreciate the content of this movie and could just marvel at Vasanth as a film maker. The story is simple. Two people who lose their loved ones find comfort in each other and decide to move on in their lives. But the way it came out in screen is masterclass storytelling. This film makes you believe that death is not the end.
Many scenes are extremely realistic that you'll forget it's a film for an instant. That's what makes this film beautiful.
For ex there is a scene in which Meena asks Arjun where his father worked. He says his father retired. Then she corrects him saying "I asked where he worked. It's past tense." I mean I've never heard a more realistic dialogue in a tamil movie till now. It is like listening to their live conversation without filters. In another scene while talking in a cafe, Meena is moved by Ramesh Arvind's nature. That's when he says "kannula mai kalanchu irukku" ( I can't even write this in English because I know it will kill the original beauty). A true classy writing with such an underrated performance from both the leads, Rythm is a gem in every sense.
